The research center of education department for wear and material protection, Henan engineering research center for wear resistant materials, Henan engineering laboratory for high temperature refractory metal material, Henan key laboratory of high temperature structural and functional materials, Henan international joint laboratory for refractory metal materials and the new materials research institute of Henan university of science and technology are the developing scientific research entities for engineering innovation and system integration of wear resistant materials at Henan university of science and technology, and also are the important parts of school material engineering discipline construction. Among them, Henan engineering research center for wear resistant materials is the only provincial researching center in China which integrates scientific research, new product development, engineering and industrialization into one. The research directions include: life extension and control technology of wear resistant materials under harsh conditions, the composition design criteria of integral wear resistant materials, high performance wear materials research, surface strengthening and combination technology of wear-resistance parts, failure characteristics based on surface wear of wear resistant components, series of surface composite wear resistant materials development, the forming mechanism of heavy equipment in large size basic parts, manufacturing technology research, The design principle is put forward, and a series of manufacturing processes are developed, development and engineering of functional wear resistant materials, research and development of special functional wear resistant materials, study of new molybdenum, tungsten and copper alloy materials.

Nowadays, the engineering research center has the innovation team of "Yangtze scholars and innovation team development plan" - Key Technology of advanced wear-resistant materials", which has the domestic leading level in tribology and material protection, high vanadium alloy, large casting technology, refractory alloy development, shows obvious technical advantages. There are engineering and technical committees composed of academicians, professors and experts in this researching center, more than 50 people including the national "hundred talents project national candidate, the national young experts with outstanding contributions", the Central Plains scholars, Professors and PhDs. In recent years, the research center has undertaken 3 National Natural Science Foundations, the national science and technology support program, the national "863" project, the national strategic emerging industry development projects, the Ministry of science and technology innovation platform project, Henan province science and technology major projects in total of 21. Besides, this center also won 2 second prizes of national science and technology progress, 3 first prizes and 7 second prizes of provincial, obtained 27 national invention patents, and published 5 monographs, more than 280 academic papers have been published in academic journals at home and abroad, among which 116 are cited by SCI and EI.
